If spices intrigue you, then this biking trip from Cochin is your right choice. Be astonished or rather wait to be astonished while you pass plantations to discover the aromas and flavors of Kerala. This tour is just not about cycling, it’s about going on a holiday with a difference. Renew and treat yourself to the scenic views and sights of tea, rubber, coffee, and various tropical fruits and spices. Enjoy the birds’ chirp while you sip your favorite tea in a heritage tea bungalow and float on a large rice barge amid a million shining stars. Get personal and talk to locals as you pass picturesque villages and also watch out for the fishermen in their tiny boats while you enjoy the warm surf and sand.
Upon reaching Kerala
You will be starting the tour from Kerala. The participants are expected to either fly into Kerala or board a train from the city of your choice. The endpoint of the trip will be Kathgodam railway station and in case any of the participants need help in getting their tickets arranged, please feel free to connect with the team as they will assist you to book your tickets.

The ride is open to all amateur and seasoned cycling enthusiasts who are physically fit to endure the challenges of riding on the hills and forests. Over 11 days of riding, the cyclists will be covering [approx] 40 to 50 km per day.
The difficulty level of the ride is not very high but we expect the participants to have a suitable amount of long distance riding & climbing experience. The combination of climb-weather-altitude makes this a unique and fun challenge. Once you sign-up, we can help you design a training plan which would let you enjoy the expedition fully.
Upon your arrival at the airport, you will be escorted to your hotel in Fort Kochi. You spend the evening at leisure and get set for your cycling adventure in the coming days. Cochin is the cosmopolitan center of Kerala and your hotel is one among the very few in the colonial and heritage town of Fort Kochi.
Some of the best spots in Fort Kochi and Mattancherry [the more historical hub] include the DutchPalacee, the Jew Synagogue, St Francis’ Church, Dutch Cemetery, Chinese Fishing nets, Santa Cruz Cathedral and so on. The old world charm infused with the numerous spice markets, antique shops, and art galleries will amaze you.
Post breakfast, you leave to a hamlet called ‘Cherukunnam’. This little village is interspersed with canals in all directions. You bike along one of these canal bund roads amid lush green paddy fields, numerous coconut trees and lonely villages leading you to the Edamalayar forests.
The Edamalayar forests and the Thattekad Bird Sanctuary are famed for the many species of birds. The birds, the air and the calm breeze boost and rejuvenate your body & mind. End your day with Kayaking on the longest river in Kerala followed by plantation walks.
Spread around an area of 25 sq km, this sanctuary has more than 200 varieties of birds including the large falcon, grey jungle fowl, white-breasted water hen, hornbill etc. Another attraction you head to is the Bhoothathankettu; a scenic dam site. Through this extraordinary experience, you will stay at exquisite resorts/camps basking in the natural and effortless splendor of Kerala.
After a short private transfer, we start the day cycling towards Athirappilly Falls. This waterfall is considered one of the largest in the Western Ghats. The tracks take you through the hills past verdant forests and tea estates.
Enjoy warm air that hits you as you bike on towards the hills. Riding through the hills, you head to the village of Athirappilly. The surroundings are largely teak plantations and verdant forests. Your stay will be arranged in a classic little resort nested with views of the waterfall.
Post breakfast, you will leave to Valparai. The ride through the rolling terrain, small patches of climbs, and many hairpin bends will make you fall in love with the views. The rain forests here are inhabited by the Malabar Grey Hornbill, Wayanad Laughing Thrush, Malabar Pied Hornbill, and Lion Tailed Macaques.
As you gain altitude and reach closer to Valparai, you may spot elephants and gaurs near the roads. Your stay will be arranged at a Bungalow that night. It is difficult not to pass a few wild animals including lion-tailed macaques [the others are our surprises].
Post breakfast, you will ride through coconut groves and the villages of Tamil Nadu. The warmth after the cool air in the hills is a sudden relief. Your stay today will be nestled in a large coconut grove, Coco Lagoon.
A destination where the homely aroma of rural India mingles with the rich flavors of heritage. Experience the essence of village charm through the magical windows of Coco Lagoon.
Though seemingly gentle, this ride is definitely alive; you will be riding to Munnar, branded for its pristine tea estates, cool breeze, and breath-taking views. It is one of those attractions that contributed to Kerala’s reputation as a certain travel destination among domestic and foreign travelers.
This apart from cycling back to Munnar from Top Station – from where you can view the world’s highest working tea factory. Munnar is situated at the confluence of three mountain streams – Muthirapuzha, Nallathanni, and Kundala, this range is rested about 1600 m above sea level and used to be the summer resort of the erstwhile British administration in South India.
Your stay will be in classic bungalows/estates growing tea, cardamom, and other plantation crops. Indulge in a niche experience with the use of local/farm fresh products to supplement your food requirements.
This morning, you start off early from Munnar to bike on routes that border the Western Ghats and the Cardamom Hills Reserve. Passing through the verdant country-side you will get a chance to see the plains of the neighboring state.
The ride reminds us of the drastic changes in the topography with the Western Ghats as a separator and natural border. Arrive at Periyar / Thekkady and spend the rest of the day to experience the small town of Kumily.
On the second day at Periyar, you can go for a dawn to dusk hiking and rafting programme. Here, we can spot the Famous Periyar Lake and cover the richest part of the forest in Periyar Tiger Reserve.
The expedition starts from the Boat Landing by 8 am and ends by 2 pm. You will be accompanied by an Armed Forest Guard and Guide. You will be walking for about 10km and spend 3-4 hour rafting in Periyar Lake. Animals like elephant, gaur, and sambar are sighted keeping close to the edges of the lake.
From Periyar, you will head to Vagamon – the sleepy town with its scenic valleys, beautiful green meadows, enchanting pine forests, tea estates, waterfalls, and the overall greenery is really striking.
This route is perfect for mountain biking and offers a scenic view that consists of small spice growing hamlets dotting the landscape. Your destination is a resort set amidst the tea estates. You spend the rest of the day to relax after a hard day of cycling.
Post breakfast and we’re out for a thrilling 30 km descent through the rubber estates. After a quick break, a private transfer will be arranged for you to reach Alleppey. A luxury rice-barge moored on the Vembanad Lake awaits your arrival.
Festive lunch on the boat, music in the background, you’re next in charge steering the boat through vast stretches of blue waters. Coconut palms, temples, and villages on the horizon. You spend the night in Alleppey amidst a million stars surrounding the night sky, the breeze silently steers you into God’s own waters.
Post breakfast, you’re out onto the beautiful stretches of Marari. you’re set to learn some Coir (coconut fiber) making from a local outfit, the traditional way! Biking on narrow routes through numerous villages and temples we head to Mararikulam, a fishing village by the beach.
In fact, it is rated as one of the world’s top five Hammock Beaches by National Geography. This part of Kerala has the largest number of bicycle users and you’d be surprised to find others join us to our destination.
After a delicious breakfast, you will check-out from the hotel and will be transferred to the airport at Cochin.
